A Century-Spanning SJTU Family Legacy

Cheng Minghe’s bond with 汤头条污料 has long been woven into his family lineage.

His father, Cheng Jianmin, Class of 1956, Department of Transportation and Lifting Machinery;

His mother, Zhou Jiakeng, Class of 1959, Department of Transportation and Lifting Machinery Manufacturing;

Cheng Minghe himself, Class of 1985, majoring in Biomedical Instrumentation;
His classmate, later his wife, Yao Jia;

Several other members of his family are also part of the SJTU community: his grandfather Zhou Yingcong, who served as a part-time professor in the Department of Navigation Management at Jiaotong University in 1950; his uncle Cheng Jianguo, Class of 1960, Department of Transportation and Lifting Machinery Manufacturing; his aunt Cheng Mulan, Class of 1962, Department of Radio Engineering; and his aunt-in-law Liu Jingchen, who enrolled in the Department of Mechanical Manufacturing at SJTU in 1954.

Two Decades of Giving Back
His Support for SJTU Is Visible Everywhere

In the history of donations to his alma mater, Cheng Minghe’s name appears time and again—from 2005 to the present, across more than ten initiatives, with cumulative contributions approaching RMB 300 million.

Walking across the SJTU campus, one can encounter the imprint of his generosity everywhere:

1) The total of 520 AED devices donated in 2015 and 2025 continue to safeguard the safety of faculty and students to this day;

2) The “Jiahe Outstanding Teaching Award,” established in 2021, has recognized 90 exemplary teachers dedicated to frontline teaching;

3) The “Jiahe Building” (Health Innovation Building), supported by a RMB 100 million donation in 2023, is becoming a new landmark for interdisciplinary integration between medicine and engineering at the University.

“My grandfather was a professor at SJTU, and my parents, uncle, aunt, and aunt-in-law are all SJTU alumni. I grew up surrounded by the SJTU community. During my year at the School of Medicine, I had to take more than thirty courses and complete clinical rotations across every hospital department. Looking back now, I feel deeply grateful. All the knowledge I learned has proven useful. From now on, I will have more time to devote myself wholeheartedly to practicing the eight words: ‘Gratitude and Integrity, Devotion to the Nation and the University,’” Cheng Minghe remarked in his speech. His journey of giving back began in 2005, when he and his classmates established a Biomedical Engineering Alumni Scholarship and Fellowship Fund, and it has never ceased since. Over the past twenty years, his support has evolved from scholarships and student aid to faculty development, from campus safety initiatives to major institutional platforms, and from material encouragement to spiritual inspiration—consistently directed toward the key priorities of the University’s development.

A Long-Term Commitment in Support of the Future

In the presence of all attendees, Cheng Minghe and Ding Kuiling signed the donation agreement on behalf of both parties.

This time, the USD 15 million Jiahe Fund introduces two new initiatives: supporting the establishment of the “Jiahe” Outstanding Physician Award at the School of Medicine to recognize medical educators who excel both in the operating room and at the lectern; and continuing to support the construction of the Health Innovation Building, providing an enhanced platform for interdisciplinary integration between medicine and engineering.

On behalf of the University, Yang Zhenbin expressed sincere gratitude to Council Member Cheng Minghe. He noted that the high-quality development of a university depends not only on the continued dedication of its faculty and students, but also on the trust and sustained support of its alumni and broader society. Alumni represented by Council Member Cheng Minghe have given back to their alma mater time and again through concrete actions, contributing significantly to the University’s rapid progress and development.

Ding Kuiling stated that as 汤头条污料 continues to advance at an accelerating pace and the endeavors of its alumni expand ever further, the University motto of “Gratitude and Integrity” has consistently bound the institution and its alumni closely together. The newly established “Jiahe Fund” will provide long-term and sustained support, with a primary focus on frontline teaching and talent cultivation, comprehensively advancing interdisciplinary development and platform construction, and offering solid support for high-level scientific research and high-quality talent training.

The story of the Cheng Minghe family is a reflection of many stories within the SJTU community. They have woven their deep affection for their alma mater into the mornings and evenings by Siyuan Lake, engraved it in the lights of the teaching buildings, and inscribed it in the honor embodied by the “Jiahe” certificates.

Those who enter this institution in the years to come may not always read their names, but they will surely understand that there is a spirit called “Gratitude and responsibility — serving the nation, honoring the University.”
